If your goal is to have your web site reach the top of the search engines and outrank other sites, it should be detected and well received by the search engine algorithm. There are some companies who would pay for valuable ad space to have heir website on the returned results by the search engines but there is another way. To make things easier, you can simply rely on Search Engine Optimization or SEO to get your website on the top ten listing of their respective search phrase through improving content and expanding the site with relevant data.

To properly optimize your website, keep the following three things in mind:

Designing the web page – Optimization should be a part of the design process but many people treat this as an afterthought after designing. As a result of this shoddy workmanship, potential customers get tired in finding relevant data. Also, be sure every page on your site has been optimized with unique content, titles and tags.

Remember, it’s not just the search engines though – Do not create a site just so the search engine can find it. Most importantly being user friendly with navigation so people can find what they’re looking for. If people find it hard to navigate your site, most likely the search engines will find it difficult to find pages within your site as well..

Keywords and Links – Have a list of terms you want to rank in the search engines for and it’s always best keywords differ from page to page to avoid redundancy. You can place keywords in the page title, Meta tags, body, headings, images and bullets. You will also want to consider doing off-page linking campaigns in order to be more competitive and creates more site traffic to yield better results than just having internal keywords.

If you carefully follow the above three points, search engines along with their spiders and people will begin to find your site more frequently.

There have been plenty of online businesses that have been started with little or no money. Business owners did everything themselves; the production preparation, the marketing strategy development, and the marketing of their products through a website they themselves created. As business grows and expands over time, they realize that their “homebrewed” website is inadequate to cover everything, and that they will have to dedicate a day or two to work on website expansion.

If you have been one who started business from the ground up, with very little or no money, it will be a fair assumption that you would be skeptical to pay money for something you feel you could do yourself. There is however a lot more that goes into the hiring the services of a designer than just completing a job you started yourself or that you don’t want to do.

• When you engage the services of a web designer, you are doing more than simply giving the “dirty job” over to somebody else. You are giving charge to someone to do the worrying, solving and working on the annoyances that may escape you as you concentrate on the big picture. Sometimes, it just pops out of nowhere and with a specialist that has got you covered. You are better left working on the more important business strategies than having to work on design or technical aspect of your site.

• When you engage a web designer, you are availing yourself of the services of a professional who are very good at what they do and are experts in the craft. They see problems as well as solutions that you probably would not have thought of with all the business details from production to distribution that you have to attend to. They are better able to detect potential problems and anticipate sound solutions, and much faster too.

The work you pay a professional web designer to do will come out more attuned to your business goals and more attractive than you can achieve yourself as it has been done by someone trained for the job or has been doing it for a much longer time than you have. They do this for a living, so my advice to you is to leave the website development to the professional and concentrate on more income producing activities and what you do best, which is growing your business.

Corporate or business websites present an online company headquarters that prospective clients and customers visit. Therefore, it makes sense to practice good design principles in your website creation or redesign to enable it not only to reach out to the optimum level of visitors but also to present content and information in such as way as to support the revenue and profit goals of the company. Consider the following good design principles:

Make your website load fast – Eliminate images that are not only unnecessary but also makes the web site load sluggishly. If the image is essential to the information being presented, optimize it with the use of any program designed for image editing so the file is reduced to the minimum size. Also avoid the use of scripting languages unless absolutely necessary. Use it only to manipulate or handle data and not to create optical effects. The use of heavy scripts not only results to delay in the upload of the website but also lead to crash in some browsers. In addition, not all browsers support scripts.

Make your website visually appealing – The right balance of images and information help drive home the point you are trying to present. Keep text paragraph lengths at reasonable lengths and if it should be very long, you may want to consider splitting it into separate articles or at least pages. The font size should also not be too small so that it strains the eyes of the visitors and not too big so that it leads to a wider page that annoys the reader. The navigation menu should be uncluttered and provide clear directions on how to navigate the site.

Make your website cross-browser compatible – You’ll lose out if your website sports a great appearance on Internet Explorer but gets horribly disfigured in Opera or Firefox. Ensure that your website abides by the web standards found at www.w3.org. Styling your page using CSS also save you a lot of work as it renders all elements in the website in just one change.

Practicing good design principles benefits everyone, the customer, the designer, the webmaster and the business owner. It makes for so much with so little.
